Company culture matters.
Fostering positive relationships within your company is a direct investment towards your team’s future success.
When you have scheduled an interview with a candidate, you as a recruiter will expect them to ask practical questions about expectations and responsibilities. Candidates will want to ensure they are qualified for their prospective role. It is important to prepare answers to these questions.
However, it is just as important for new hires to have a predetermined understanding of the company culture. Working within a company is a big commitment, and it is essential to foster a positive office environment for the team, and showcase to prospective employees ways in which they can fit into your team cohesively.
By definition, companies operate with a common set of goals, and team members work together to achieve them. Therefore, establishing an environment where employees look forward to working together is priceless and an ingredient in the “secret sauce” of retaining talent. Not to mention, a top-tier company culture can be quite an encouraging factor during a candidate’s job search-more goes into a candidate’s decision process than compensation alone.
Make your company stick out as a great place to work with these tips…
Embrace Transparency. There is one great way to assess your company culture. Ask your team what they would like to see! What’s working? What’s not the best? It is important to hear from your team and get their personal takes on the current company culture, because the team’s experience is the ultimate primary source. People want to be heard, and making sure your employees are feeling fulfilled with their work-life balance can be very beneficial for word-of-mouth referrals and overall morale.
Plan and share events! Company outings to local community events are an excellent way to promote team bonding and improve workplace morale. Think out-of-the-box. These events can be big or small depending on your goals. If your office is indoors, perhaps take the team outside for some Vitamin-D. You could organize kayaking, mini golfing, camping, etc. Maybe your team members would prefer something different…A comedy show, an escape room, a sit-down dinner, floral arranging. The list goes on. Inviting family and friends along may result in a higher turnout as well. Make sure to document these events to share on social media to let prospective hires know that there is more to your company than your commodity or service.
Celebrating holidays is key. Take the time to recognize and acknowledge them. It is a great way to demonstrate a company who cares. Utilize your social media presence by extending holiday wishes to all who celebrate, and communicate with your team members about what holidays they require time off for.
Conferences and networking events. These are a great way to bring your team together within the realm of work. Business trips allow for teams to come together and bring their skills on the road, and share your positive company culture with others. Take as many opportunities to travel with your team as possible. They make an incredible difference.
Highlight your employees. Each individual member of the team makes up the culture. Consider an employee of the month system, or social media highlights to showcase the hard work of your employees and make them feel valued. Wishing employees a happy birthday is a great, simple way to show your appreciation for them. Encourage your team to come together to plan surprises and support one another.
Moral of the story…
Fostering your company culture comes down to putting in the work to make your employees feel valued, and the work doesn’t stop there. Utilize social media as much as possible to make it known that you are not just a company with a name and a brand. You are a group of people who work well together, and make a positive impact on one another’s lives.
